What To Wear In Bali
To sum it up - Light and casual
- In this tropical country, dress is generally informal.
- Outside of hotels and well-defined tourist areas shorts and t-shirts are not recommended or you may get more than your fair share of unwanted attention and offend the local people.
- Opt for longer skirts, below the knee.
- Pack at least one long sleeved shirt.
- Lightweight, natural fabrics work best in the humidity.
- A sarong is a valuable cover-up for the beach and whenever a little more modesty is required.
- Carry good sturdy shoes with you since your feet will be dusty and dirty while sightseeing and the roads outside of the major cities are very rough.
- Pack quality sun cream, sunglasses and sunhat.
- For evenings it is best to avoid dangerously high heels - flat sandals will do just fine.
- When visiting sacred sites avoid shorts or short skirts - wear shirts or blouses with sleeves and carry a sarong or wear a long skirt.
- If you are planning to visit the Highlands, our advice is to wear long cotton trousers or lightweight trekking trousers, plus a sleeveless vest under a thin cotton long-sleeved shirt.
- Look after your mobile phone with a phone bunjee - this elasticated strap will secure it to your bag or pocket, so you don't need to worry about dropping it anywhere.
- Don’t drink or even brush your teeth in tap water. Consider taking a waterstraw water purifier or safe drinking water bottle.
