What To Wear In Austria
To sum it up - Stylish and Sophisticated
- Austrian's dress quite formally and stylishly.
- Very smart casual or smart business orientated clothes will carry you through for business, sight seeing and for eating out.
- Dark colours are always popular.
- Keep to low key but quality jewellery.
- Austrian men do wear jeans now and again, but most do not, so take some smarter trousers.
- Austrian women generally don't wear jeans either, except perhaps in the evenings at an outside venue but definitely not during a working day.
- By far the majority of women wear dresses and skirts.
- No t-shirts, no baseball caps, no athletic/exercise suits.
- Cobbled streets abound so avoid high heels in favour of comfortable stylish shoes or sandals... but definitely no trainers.
- In the summer months it is hot, but women do not wear shorts in the city, even teenage girls.
- Even in summer the evenings can be cool, so pack a lightweight jacket or jumper.
- A light raincoat and umbrella are useful all year round.
- Dressing in layers will help you with the temperature changes during the day, whatever time of year you visit.
- The winters are absolutely freezing and you will see lots of the locals wearing fur coats and hats.
- Pack warm layers, thick coat, hat, gloves, scarf.
- To keep your feet warm pack boots with a water resistant sole.

Your thoughts
It really puts my mind at ease. I don't want to offend anyone with my attire and want to look nice for my host family as they take me around the city. Now I feel I know how to do that. Laurie USA
The advice was very helpful and spot on for what I saw in Austria. Ellen Canada
