Wedding Abroad Packing Guide
A Capsule Wardrobe ie. a small selection of clothes that can be mixed and matched to make a large variety of outfits, usually around 15 pieces that can then be dressed up or down with the addition of accessories will give you plenty of options for your wedding trip.
However for the big day itself you may still have queries about what would be appropriate to wear for the ceremony and the reception, we are here to help so please do get in touch if you need any guidance or advice.
- The Japanese culture is formal and as you might expect wedding guests usually dress formally. Women wear dresses, suits, or kimono. Men would usually wear a black formal suit. It would be expected that women would avoid wearing all white, black or a very vibrant colour such as red. Go for more subdued colours so as not to compete.
- In Portugal a catholic wedding is a formal affair and as you might expect wedding guests usually dress formally. Women wear dresses, skirt suits, rather than trousers.
- It is considered inappropriate for women to wear trousers to a Jewish wedding.
- Our advice for a Muslim wedding would be to avoid both black and white. In different areas these are traditionally associated with funerals and it’s easier to avoid them altogether. Bright colours are popular at Muslim weddings so yellows, red, orange, bright green, pink.
If you need to take a suit or other smart clothes which are awkward to pack, consider investing in a garment bag and shirt case which are designed for this purpose, and will keep everything looking their best.
By clicking on the destination of your trip you will find useful information on general packing including cultural expectations. There you can also download packing lists for the country you are visiting, which will help for the rest of your trip.
