General Style Tips

  • Not a beach resort - pack walking shoes or sneakers, comfortable leisure wear and a day pack.
  • Accommodation is pretty basic so pack accordingly.
  • Wear plenty of sunscreen (we love the Riemann P20 range for 10 hour protection), sunglasses and a sunhat.
  • Take insect/mosquito repellent too.
  • A lightweight day sack will come in handy to carry your sightseeing essentials.
  • Take a Portuguese phrase book (you will find they speak very little English as not so many tourists come here) but they are very friendly.
  • If hiring a local taxi for a trip just agree the price before you go - they are far cheaper than you would expect to pay on the more touristy islands.

Clothing Tips for Women

  • No need for high heels or dressing for dinner here. We love Hotter shoes, for total comfort along with style. Or why not try the Lindsay Phillips Switch Flops range - using interchangeable shoe and flip-flop bases with snap-on decorations, you can change your look from day to evening in an instant whilst still packing light.
  • A pashmina is a versatile piece that will dress up any outfit.

Clothing Tips for Men

  • There are no specific things to bring to your attention, check out our packing list for our suggested capsule wardrobe.
  • For great versatile travel jackets with multiple pockets including RFID security options, we love the SCOTTeVEST range.

Pack for the Weather

  • Include a fleece if you plan to walk in the mountains and higher ground.
  • And a lightweight waterproof raincoat or jacket.
  • We love the Weather+ app - it gives an accurate 6 day forecast for day and night, which when you're planning from home is really helpful. You can keep all the places you've been to too - a nice way to remember your trip :) Download for iPad/iPhone or Android
